A National Historic Site, the Oil Museum of Canada is the site of the first commercial oil well, dug in 1858 by James Miller Williams.  The Museum preserves the important history the communities of Oil Springs & Petrolia, in Lambton County, play in the history of oil refining, exploration and discovery.  See on site historic oil equipment, learn about the Lambton men, known as the “International Drillers” who traveled around the world drilling the first oil wells in areas such as Iran and Iraq, Central America and central Europe and discover how oil drilling technology was developed and refined in this small southern Ontario community.
