Historic Markerville is located 25 minutes west of Red Deer and 20 minutes south west of Sylvan Lake. Originally established in 1888 by Icelandic settlers it now boasts 4 provincially designated historic resources within the town of 35 residents. The Markerville Creamery museum is the main attraction, with a museum in the original building set to display how a creamery would operate in the 1920’s. The Creamery also has a Kaffistofa (Coffee Shop) which serves up ice cream, light lunches and Icelandic specialities.

The other Provincially Designated Historic Resources in the town include; Markerville Lutheran church which was originally built in 1907, is immaculately restored to it’s originally beauty and is open to the public for weddings and for viewings on the weekends. Historic Fensala Hall built in 1904, is the longest operating hall in Alberta and now hosts a variety of community events, concerts, weddings, reunions and many more attractions. The Butter Makers house located across from the creamery as recently been purchased by the society is in the process of being restored and will be open to the public soon.

Historic Markerville is truly Central Alberta’s Hidden Gem! Admission is complimentary on July 7, 2018 in honour of Historic Places day.
